“Implementación de equipo de manipulación en pacientes para el hogar de ancianos y aislamiento de la ciudad de Riobamba”

This research work is aimed at identifying the ergonomic risks, specifically the lifting of loads the Nursing Assistant staff is exposed to, and the implementation of prevention and control measures to minimize them through the incorporation of an equipment to lift patients. In order to fulfill the objectives, the labor medical records of the sample staff in the Nursing Home and Isolation Center of Riobamba were analyzed. This center gives medical attention to 61 elderly of which 13 are internal prostrated that need the help of nurses when putting them in bed or getting them out of the bed , feeding them or cleaning them up. With a redistribution of workers, the lifting performed by one single person could be avoided, because it was performed by two assistants. Currently, with the implementation of the lifting equipment there is no lifting performed by a person, and postural hygiene is correct. The activity that involves this risk was evaluated with the REBA, RULA, NIOSH methods. This process showed that the activity was at high risk.This research is considering the welfare of the elderly so as the nursing assistants good work conditions. Nowadays, there are 17 people working, 15 women and 2 men. Some actions were adopted at the source such as the implementation of an equipment to lift patients, a training on load lifting and postural hygiene.The minimization of this risk factor will frame the improvement in health and safety conditions of the staff.
