Tabaquismo en las patologías orales.

The main objective of this research work was to establish, through a bibliographic review, the association of smoking with oral cavity pathologies. A scientific, literary analysis of several articles published in different bibliographic sources such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scielo was carried out. They were within a time interval of the last ten years (2013-2023), subject to PRISMA standards, looking for studies such as meta-analyses, bibliographic reviews, and case studies. There were also inclusion and exclusion mechanisms, and the impact factor of the SJR (Scimago Journal Ranking) and ACC (Average Count Citation) was applied. Fifty-four literary sources were collected, 43 in English and 11 in Spanish. After having reviewed the scientific articles, the influence of smoking on oral pathologies such as oral cancer, periodontitis, and premalignant lesions was verified, and it determined that the most prevalent pathology is oral cancer, the component that most frequently affects the oral cavity is nicotine, the form of consumption that most generate diseases in the oral cavity is inhaled tobacco. In the analysis, it can be found that the most common oral pathology in smokers is oral cancer at 30%, the component that generates the most significant impact on the oral cavity is nicotine at 55%, and the form of consumption that produces the most excellent appearance of pathologies in soft tissues is inhaled tobacco with 68%.
