| Riassunto: | Teenage pregnancy and pre-eclampsia are a growing problem that causes an increase in maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. OBJECTIVE: To characterize the risk factors and complications of pre-eclampsia in adolescents treated in the Gynecology and Obstetrics service in the Provincial General Teaching Hospital Riobamba, during 2017. METHODOLOGICAL DESIGN: Descriptive, cross-sectional, mixed, applied, observational study, it was carried out with 100 clinical records of teenage patients with an accurate diagnosis of preeclampsia. RESULTS: 97% of patients are in late adolescence, the majority coming from the urban area (75%), with incomplete secondary studies (49%) with a report of more than 5 prenatal checkups. The high risk factor, hypertensive disorders in previous pregnancy was presented in 2%. The main medium risk factors were teenage pregnancy and the first pregnancy (88%). Pre-eclampsia with signs of severity was predominant (82%). The main maternal complications reported were: postpartum haemorrhage (12%), HELLP syndrome (11%) and eclampsia (7%). Among the complications in the newborn, 14% were premature and 26% had low birth weight. CONCLUSIONES: Teenage pregnancies and preeclampsia are becoming more frequent. There was a greater frequency of adolescents who presented preeclampsia with signs of seriousness; low incidence of high risk factors, and within predominated the first pregnancy of mothers, whose main complications were hypertensive disorders associated with significant percentages of premature births and low birth weight. |
