Epidemiología de la fractura de cadera. Hospital Carlos Andrade Marín, Quito, 2020-2021

ABSTRACT: Hip fractures are currently considered as the new orthopedic epidemic, according to the WHO, its incidence in Latin America is increasing more and more. The objective of this research work was to determine the hip fractures epidemiology index at the Carlos Andrade Marín Hospital in Quito during the period 2020 - 2021. The research problem was to analyze the aspects observed in the fractures approach. This analysis will help the traumatology and orthopedics area, create plans to improve the approach to all traumatic hip pathologies. The problem appears because the high incidence of hip fractures that have been increasing lately. A descriptive study was carried out, with 160 patients as the study population, where 60% of the patients studied were female, and the most affected age group was 65 years and older, the mechanism of action with the highest incidence was the fall from their own height with 82.5% of cases, among the post-surgical complications presented was the functional limitation in 16%, significant reduction about the complete restitution of the functionality of unaccompanied ambulation and daily activities. It is recommended to make use of strategies to improve the patient’s lifestyle and prevent the probable causes of this pathology, especially in the female population and the relationship with the mechanism of injury since it is a frequent issue in the geriatric population.
