description ABSTRACT The determination of protein in 24-hour urine is a method for the diagnosis of preeclampsia, being a support for the doctor since it guides the state of severity of the disease. Within the hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, the pathology due to several pre-existing factors or those that occur in the patient is included and is characterized by the presence of endothelial damage together with acute atherosis. The objective of the present review was to analyze the predictability of 24-hour proteinuria in the diagnosis of preeclampsia in high-risk pregnancies. The methodology used was a qualitative approach, descriptive level, documentary design, retrospective cross-sectional cohort, reviewing a population of 130 useful scientific articles related to the object of study, strategically obtained from Google Scholar, Google books, Elsevier, Pubmed, Science Direct, with a sample of 59 articles analyzed in detail. The data was obtained taking into account the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Within the results achieved, proteinuria in 24-hour urine comprises a necessary procedure to corroborate the doctor's diagnosis. In addition, pre-existing diseases, maternal age or African race determine high-risk pregnancy and also preeclampsia with a result of 300mg - 1g/24 hours is related to a mild state and ≥ 5g/24 hours serious, for this reason, it is Constant surveillance by specialists and effective laboratory tests in these patients are essential to prevent undesirable risks to the mother and fetus.
