Summary:The purpose of this research was to analyze how cooperative learning is used to develop the speaking. The study was applied at decimo año de educacion general basica “A” at “Unidad Educativa Monsenor Leonidas Proaño”, in Riobamba city , Chimborazo province, during the academic year 2018-2019. The study was raised because, it has been observed that students participating in the research have had problems interacting using English; Although cooperative learning was in use to help students develop their communication skills. The ethnographic method and the observation technique were used to gather the necessary information to analyze, describe and understand the research problem. The observation guide takes into account the theoretical foundations proposed by Kagan (2009) in the theoretical framework. The results reflected factors such as roll play, monitoring, feedback, reinforcement, among others; present some pedagogical disagreements that affect the correct development of activities based on cooperative learning from the beginning.
