Gaia:ABSTRACT: Sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (SAHOS) is a clinical condition in which there is a periodic obstruction of the pharynx during sleep, this produces a transient oxygen desaturation which in addition to producing a non-restorative sleep produces systemic alterations of great medical relevance. Patients with OSAHS are associated with a high rate of coronary heart disease, alterations of the sympathetic nervous system, prediabetes, among others. The treatment considered Gold standard in this disease is the application of positive airway pressure CPAP, which is a non-invasive ventilatory support system that applies pressure continuously in the airway, by means of a non-cycled gas flow. The purpose of this constant flow in the respiratory cycle is to avoid the collapse of the upper airways, avoiding episodes of apnea, thus reducing the work in inspiration and improving gas exchange. The studies presented have demonstrated the effectiveness against the most common adjacent comorbidities in OSAS such as resisted hypertension, alterations in the sympathetic nervous system, in the case of patients with prediabetes, among others. However, effectiveness depends on several parameters such as severity, comorbidity, time of use and adherence, the latter two factors being of vital importance in terms of effectiveness.
