Beskrivelse
Summary:The present study analyzes the main oral manifestations in patients with COVID-19. The research work is a systematic review of the literature, following the PRISMA methodology, published studies of the last 5 years were analyzed; retrieving a total of 29 publications from the main scientific academic collections, in addition the PICO question was posed for the specification of the subject and the study group. The main results indicate a high prevalence of oral manifestations in patients with COVID-19, with taste alterations (up to 60% of cases), xerostomia (17.8% to 44%) and ulcerative lesions (up to 47%) being the most common. The tongue emerged as the most affected site, followed by the buccal and labial mucosa. A wide variety of lesions were identified, including aphthous ulcers, petechiae, candidiasis, and herpes-like lesions. However, discrepancies in the prevalence and types of lesions reported were observed between different studies. It is finally concluded that oral manifestations are a clinically relevant aspect of COVID-19 with potential diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic implications. This implies including comprehensive oral evaluations in the management of patients with COVID-19 and suggests the need for further standardized research to better understand the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 and oral health.
