Thus, it is vital to find psychological therapies that provide effective treatments for this problem. Therefore, this literature review sought to systematize information on the application of acceptance and commitment therapy in the consumption of psychoactive substances in adults to determine its effectiveness. For this purpose, a study was conducted with a quantitative approach, descriptive level with a cross-sectional design, since information included in documents published in 2015 to 2020 will be analyzed to synthesize and interpret it. The population consisted of 700 documents, of which, by inclusion and exclusion criteria, 36 articles were chosen to determine their methodological quality, leaving as a sample 12 of them. Subsequently, the triangulation of information was performed through a comparative table. It was possible to analyze the results of the studies evidencing that this therapy is effective in treating substance use. Thus, it shows greater effectiveness in eliminating the connection between the thought, situation, and action of the individual associated with consumption even has achieved higher levels of abstinence in more extended periods.
