| Resumo: | This study analyzed the inclusion of students with catastrophic diseases at the Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo. An inquiry was conducted on the perceptions of teachers and students regarding diversity, and a proposal of routes and protocols was designed to facilitate the identification and timely intervention of the special educational needs of students with catastrophic diseases to promote their successful academic continuity and integral wellbeing. A quantitative and qualitative approach was used. Instruments and data collection techniques were applied: a questionnaire was applied to teachers to explore the current situation regarding inclusive processes in attention to the exposed population and structured in three dimensions: counseling, promotion, prevention, attention, and comprehensive follow-up; and to students the C2DADEI questionnaire to analyze teaching competencies for attention to diversity and educational inclusion and the ESADIE scale for analysis of attention to diversity and educational inclusion. The results showed a favorable attitude towards inclusion, but there was also a need to strengthen teacher training, awareness, and communication. It is concluded that the implementation of inclusive routes and protocols is fundamental to guaranteeing equal opportunities in the institution, and teacher training, awareness raising, and communication are essential keys to ensuring equal opportunities. |
