| Resumo: | The main objective was to evaluate academic stress and attention in first and second-year high school students at the “Nazareno” Riobamba Educational Unit. The nature of the research was non-experimental because no variables were manipulated during the study; the quantitative approach was used to analyze the phenomenon, where the data of the instruments applied, such as the SISCO Inventory and D2, were interpreted. It was also of correlational level and transversal type because of the time it was carried out and propositional because of its objective. The research was carried out in the field, and the sample consisted of 53 first and second-year high school students, 34 female and 19 males. The psychometric technique was used to collect data, and the D2 attention test was applied. The analysis of the data collected was performed by calculating frequencies and percentages corresponding to each of the evaluated ranges. The results obtained through the SISCO Inventory indicated that students need help to manage stress, to reduce stress to reduce academic stressors and promote effective coping strategies; it was determined through the Likert scale where one means never, and five always. The D2 test reflected low efficiency in sustained and selective attention tasks, which generated problems in academic performance. It is concluded that students require attention to manage stress and attentional skills to improve school performance |
