Opis
Streszczenie:The acute poisoning by paraquat constitutes the first cause of mortality by intoxication in our country, establishing itself as a problem of Public Health in Ecuador. OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of acute paraquat poisoning in patients treated at the Internal Medicine Department of the José María Velasco Ibarra Hospital in Tena. METHOD: A non-experimental, non-experimental, retrospective documentary nature research was conducted, 129 clinical records of patients diagnosed with acute paraquat intoxication were reviewed, the sociodemographic conditions of the patients, intoxication conditions were taken into account and the diagnosis of discharge during his hospitalization. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: A higher prevalence of cases could be determined in 2014 with 23.26%, and in 2015 with 21.70%, more frequently in females, of suicidal cause, in a higher proportion in the age group of 20 to 24 years with 38.80% of the total of cases. In addition, it was concluded that the rural area is the most vulnerable to suffering an intoxication due to being an agricultural area and with a low level of schooling.
