Proyecto de Intervención Arquitectónica en la Sede de la Sociedad de Devotos del Señor el Buen Suceso, Riobamba, Ecuador.

The protection of architectural heritage constitutes an essential element in sociocultural processes, as it represents historical, symbolic, and community values that shape the collective memory of cities. In this regard, the historic center of Riobamba preserves heritage buildings that reflect its urban, social, and constructive evolution. Among them stands out the headquarters of the Society of Devotees of the Lord of Buen Suceso, which is the focus of this project. The building, constructed in the early twentieth century as a civil residence, has undergone adaptations over time, incorporating administrative, commercial, and religious uses. However, deterioration caused by limited maintenance, environmental factors, inappropriate interventions, and material aging compromises its stability and heritage value. Pathologies in adobe walls, tiled roofs, ceilings, and traditional finishes highlight the need for a well-founded architectural intervention. This study proposes an intervention based on historical and architectural analysis, supported by surveys of the current condition, pathological diagnosis, and regulatory review, with the aim of establishing intervention criteria consistent with the principles of built heritage conservation. As a result, the proposal seeks to consolidate the structure and recover the building’s heritage values, ensuring its preservation as a cultural and social landmark in the historic center of Riobamba.
