Summary:The research deals with the influence of CLT or communicative approach in the development of communicative skills in students of third year of high school parallels A and B of the Education Unit “Juan de Velasco,” in the city of Riobamba, during the period 2014- 2015 in order to identify the problems of the students in the development of communicative skills, which serve to conduct the investigation. We worked with 50 students and one teacher, the applied techniques were the survey and observation sheet obtained as result that always with 13% the teacher to start the class starts speaking English, to promote accuracy in pronunciation and helping to create dialogues sometimes with 42% the teacher uses conversations , narrations and finally with 46% never the teacher applies storytelling, discussion, and problem –solving activities (problem solving) ; through the survey could be identified sometimes with 76% the teacher encourages students to identify keys words, with 68% students understand classes taught in English and 72% listen to song, videos during the class hour; while always with 96% the students actively participate and finally in 72% learn English language using the four skills. It is concluded that the techniques and activities of CLT and communicative approach will allow students to improve the ability of understanding approach and expand the listening skill.
