| Sumario: | "ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY "IN VITRO" OF THE ESSENTIAL OIL AND ALCOHOLIC EXTRACT OF Cinnamomum verum" CANELA "ON Candida albicans CEPA ATCC 10231". ABSTRACT: The purpose of the next research project was to determine the "in vitro" antifungal activity of the essential oil and alcohol extract of Cinnamomum verum (cinnamon) on Candida albicans strain ATCC 10231. The essential oil of cinnamon was obtained by the oil extraction system; by the clevenger trap. To perform the microbiological study using the broth dilution technique, the essential oil of cinnamon was used at concentrations of 50,000ppm, up to 1,500ppm, being diluted in a "Broth" Broth + DMSO + oil + Candida albicans broth mix, inoculated in Petri dishes. The Kirby Bauer technique was also performed in concentrations ranging from 12,500 ppm to 2,500 ppm in DMSO. The oil was compared with fluconazole 150mg (Candifix 150mg) as a positive control, and distilled H2O with DMSO was used as the negative control. The alcoholic extract of Cinnamomum verum "cinnamon" was obtained by means of a Rotavapor R-300 at a temperature of 60 ° C with a 45 ° tilt of the balloon within 2 hours and concentrations were made from 50,000 ppm to 5,000 ppm. After performing the tests of sensitivity "in vitro" it was obtained that the essential oil has greater antifungal activity against Candida albicans, that the alcoholic extract also shows greater antifungal activity than the drug used as a positive control fluconazole 150mg (Candifix), with respect to the alcoholic extract the fungus did not present any sensibility. |
