Résumé: | Dental caries is the main dental disease and it develops from products of metabolism of microorganisms of the oral flora such as Streptococcus mutans, known for being the main cariogenic bacteria. However, certain species such as Lactobacillus produce antibacterial substances that help control cariogenic species. The objective of this work was to evaluate the inhibitory potential of two selected and isolated Lactobacillus species against Streptococcus mutans. The present research is of an experimental in vitro cross-sectional type with a quantitative approach; to carry out the research, the reactivation and differentiation of the strains was carried out, obtaining 15 suitable samples from which inhibition tests were carried out with filter paper discs (4 per sample) impregnated with S. mutans that were evaluated using the micron (um) metric system at 24 and 48 hours with the help of a stereomicroscope. The results showed that Lactobacillus delbruekii and Lactobacillus fermentum showed inhibitory capacity, with L. delbruekii being slightly superior. The existence of inhibitory potential by the selected Lactobacillus strains was demonstrated, suggesting that they could be used in preventive dental treatments in the future. |
