| Sažetak: | This research seeks to examine the influence of emotional intelligence on the capabilities of professional communicators, given its importance for communication quality, interpersonal relationships, and job performance. To this end, the study was based on the proposals of Salovey and Mayer (1990), Bar -On (1997), and Goleman (1999) on emotional intelligence, focusing mainly on the proposal by Daniel Goleman (1999), which argues that emotional competencies such as self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills are determinants of personal and professional success. At the same time, this work was developed using a mixed-methods approach with a descriptive-correlational design, grounded in the pragmatic paradigm. A population of 100 communicators in the city of Riobamba was identified, obtaining a non-probabilistic, intentional sample of 80 professional communicators, to whom two psychometric instruments were applied: the IEC-25 and the CP-15, both Likert type, complemented by semi-structured interviews. The results showed that most participants had a high level of emotional intelligence, while 29% were at an average level and 6% at a low level. Among the dimensions of EI that stand out among communicators are empathy (68%), motivation (67%), and self-regulation (65%), demonstrating these professionals' ability to manage emotions and communicate assertively. |
