Summary: | The use of high power lasers has become an integral part of oral soft tissue surgery due to its advantages such as: accelerated healing, reduced working time and reduction or elimination of pain. However, the effectiveness of the high power laser will depend on its wavelength, frequency and time, so the effects on soft tissues will vary from process to process. Objective: To analyse the efficacy of the infrared laser on soft tissues in oral surgery procedures by means of a systematic review in order to provide information on the benefits and disadvantages of the use of this laser. Method: Systematic review with a qualitative, descriptive and purely descriptive approach, which used a documentary collection method that used scientific articles collected by means of advances search chains in the Scielo, ScienceDirect and PubMed databases as sources of information. Results: As a result of the search, a total of 102 scientific articles were obtained where 10 relevant to the research were selected. Conclusions: The high – power laser was identified as effective and beneficial for oral surgery, as it generates little damage, cleans the surgical field of the operator and reduces the risk of bleeding in highly vascularized areas such as the tongue. Howere, power and wave frequency must be taken into account as these can affect the result of soft tissue surgery. |
