Eficacia del balón intragástrico en el tratamiento del sobrepeso y obesidad

Obesity is a chronic, metabolic disease that is difficult to manage; with avoidable complications in most cases. Due to its complexity, there are various therapies aimed at this ailment, ranging from lifestyle changes to various pharmacotherapies and even surgical procedures. Given the high rate of failures in education and the use of drugs, we proceed to other techniques such as the application of intragastric balloons (IGB), which consists of the insertion of a device that reduces gastric capacity and contributes to the sensation of fullness. Objective: to carry out an updated bibliographic review on the effectiveness of the intragastric balloon, in the management of overweight and obesity, to improve the quality of life of these patients. Methods: descriptive study, with methods of empirical and theoretical level of knowledge. Results: the intragastric balloon currently offers efficacy that surpasses the rest of the strategies used in overweight and obesity, to significantly improve the quality of life of these patients. Conclusions: it is currently scientifically proven that the placement of the intragastric balloon surpasses the rest of the therapies for the effectiveness of the management of overweight and obesity, which contributes to improving the quality of life in these patients, however it does not supplement the rest of the strategies cannot be applied to all of them, so it is very important to insist on educating the population in this regard as well as providing personalized attention in each case.
