總結:Delirium is a severe clinical - psychiatric disorder that can be characterized by a sudden and acute attention deficit, which is accompanied by hallucinations, agitation, psychosis associated or not with the ingestion of psychoactive medications and drugs, increasing the morbidity and mortality of patients admitted to the intensive care unit, with the adult - pediatric population being the most affected. The aim of this article is to describe the nursing care of patients with post - extubation delirium in the intensive care unit by means of a literature review. The research is of a qualitative type supported by reviews of scientific articles published in renowned journals from 2020 to 2024, which have references to the topic; nursing care in patients with post - extubation delirium in the intensive care unit. As a result, it was found that nursing staff play a crucial role as they interact with the patient most of the time, allowing delirium to be detected in time for subsequent treatment, whether pharmacological or non - pharmacological, helping to reduce the length of hospital stay and the cost to the public health system. For this, nursing staff must know how to identify the predisposing factors of delirium, be updated on the subject and maintain assertive communication with the rest of professionals in order to prevent, reduce or eradicate delirium in patients admitted to intensive care units.
