description | Appendicitis is the main cause of acute surgical abdomen, with more than 50% being acute appendicitis. The risk of developing this pathology is higher in men than in women. The nursing staff is the first contact the patient has after surgery, so their role in recovery is very important. The aim of the research is to develop a protocol to standardize the care required by post - appendectomy patients in order to reduce the incidence of post - surgical infections, integrating evidence - based practices. In the methodology, the empirical method was used for the literature review that permitted to learn about the advances in nursing care in patients with this type of surgery, performing a systematic search of the literature in Medline, Scielo, Elsevier and the RRAE of Ecuador with studies between 2019 - 2024. Among the results, the following nursing care for post - appendectomy patients is proposed: complete patient assessment, pharmacological and non - pharmacological pain management, constant monitoring of vital signs, hydration, encouraging early ambulation, providing a healthy environment, antibiotic therapy, constant hand washing, use of appropriate supplies, use of personal protective equipment, keeping wounds clean and uncovered, updated knowledge on the part of staff and performing all activities with aseptic technique. Finally, it is concluded that the use of the proposed protocol will allow the nursing staff to provide better care to post - appendectomy patients, allowing their prompt recovery. |
