Protecting the personal data of minors in the digital environment represents a growing challenge in Ecuador. While the Organic Law on Personal Data Protection (LOPDP) establishes the general principles for data processing, there are regulatory gaps regarding the specific protection of information about children and young people on digital platforms and social media. This study analyzes the risks associated with the disclosure of minors' data in the digital environment and the shortcomings of the legal mechanisms established by the LOPDP to guarantee their effective protection. It also considers the obligations of data controllers and the role of the State in addressing this issue and supervising the use of data. Finally, it proposes conducting strategic research on the Organic Law on Personal Data Protection to strengthen Ecuador's legal framework, aligning it with international standards and ensuring a balance between the protection of children's privacy and safe access to technology. |
