Factores socioeconómicos y culturales que contribuyen al surgimiento del sicariato en el Ecuador

Not only does hired assassination pose a threat to the life and integrity of citizens, but it also undermines the social fabric by generating fear, distrust and disruption in the affected communities. In addition, contract killings have economic, political and cultural repercussions by contributing to the perpetuation of violence, inequality and instability in the country. While incorporating the criminal reality of hitmen into Ecuadorian law based on the 2014 Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code is an important step forward, it suffers from incompleteness because it does not take into account the complex web of relationships. criminal connection necessary for the presence of a killer, from the creation of a market for these activities to the formation, formulation and coordination of assassins and the basic nature of the entrepreneur. Although these reforms to the COIP provide a tool for the punishment of the crime, it only acts on the act already committed, without influencing the rate of commission of this crime, that is to say that the deterrent character that the sanctions are intended to have on the crimes has not had the expected result. Responding to the fact that this new phenomenon in the country not only has effects within the legal framework, but also social and that it is influenced by the economic, political, educational and social inequality that the country is going through.
