Samenvatting:The legalization of euthanasia in Ecuador has triggered a complex bioethical and legaldebate, placing at the forefront the limits of individual autonomy, human dignity, and the role of the state in intimate decisions concerning life and death. The objective of this studywas to analyze international experiences regarding euthanasia to identify effectivepractices that can be adapted to the Ecuadorian context. A mixed methodology wasemployed, combining the analysis of legal sources, comparison with other legal systems, and the collection of qualitative and quantitative data. The study identified current challenges and proposed recommendations to strengthen the existing regulatoryframework, ensuring that euthanasia becomes a real and safe option for those who requireit. The findings revealed an evolving scenario marked by the complexity of the ethicaland legal issues involved. Continued research and monitoring of the law's implementation were deemed necessary to identify emerging needs and challenges. The study highlightedthe importance of promoting an open and constructive dialogue among healthcareprofessionals, patients, families, and society as a whole. In conclusion, the legalization ofeuthanasia in Ecuador represents a significant step forward in recognizing the right to adignified death. However, to ensure successful and ethical implementation, it isimperative to establish a robust legal framework detailing requirements and procedures and to guarantee access to quality palliative care.
