Özet:White spot lesions are an early stage of dental caries where white spots form on the teeth due to enamel demineralization. It is important to treat them on time to prevent the progression of cavities. Objective: To analyze the mechanism of fluoride action in the process of remineralization of dental enamel over the white spot caries. Materials and methods: Academic databases: online platforms hosting a wide variety of articles, scientific magazines, thesis, technical reports, and other academic resources. The databases consulted were PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and a lot more specialized in several areas of knowledge. Results: Forty-four articles were selected during the first search; then, 10 articles were incorporated; they met the criteria of inclusion directly related to the mechanism of fluoride action in the remineralization of dental enamel in the cases of white spot caries. Conclusion: Based on the literature review, it was concluded that the use of fluoride in the treatment of white spot caries is an effective strategy and commonly used in dental practice. The topical application of fluoride varnish has been proved to be effective in reducing caries activity and reversing white spot lesions on dental enamel.
