Označite | Izvleček: | Postoperative infections are very common in patients undergoing some type of intervention, originating in various health centers. One of these infections is caused by Escherichia coli, with elderly individuals being one of the vulnerable groups to this type of pathology, leading to subsequent complications. This underscores the importance of effective, efficient, and timely intervention by the nursing staff responsible for the care of these patients. As well as the full adherence to a care protocol according to the patient’s clinical condition to prevent the spread of bacteria causing surgical infections. Objective: To determine through a bibliographic review the appropriate mechanisms by nursing staff in the prevention of postoperative infections caused by Escherichia coli in elderly patients. Methodology: The research was conducted using a qualitative approach with a systematic design, addressing a theoretical study employing analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive, historical-logical, and empirical methods of knowledge. Results: The highlighted analysis of the importance of nursing care in critical care units for the prevention and management of postoperative infections caused by Escherichia coli in elderly patients. Conclusions: It is crucial that nursing personnel receive continuous training from their healthcare entity to prevent these complications, which in several cases can lead to lethal consequences. |
