| Тойм: | Pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation (VAP) is a public health problem that increases the probability of death due to infection, since it can lead to sepsis. The aim of this research is to determine the risk factors that cause ventilator-associated pneumonia, in order to reduce complications through good clinical care practices. A systematic review of the literature was carried out to locate and summarize recent publications on definitions and epidemiology using the PRISMA 2020 methodology and the different web search engines, based on the bibliographic review of 22 articles chosen for the analysis. As results, it was evidenced that the most common microorganisms associated with VAP are Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and enteric gram-negative bacilli for the identification of predominant pathogens, allowing to adapt prevention and treatment strategies. Furthermore, it is concluded that the relationship between the duration of mechanical ventilation and the incidence of HAIs highlights the need for adequate and timely management. It was also observed that a longer duration of ventilation is associated with an increase in microbial colonization and, therefore, there is a higher risk of nosocomial infections. |
