Prevalencia de anemia en niños menores de 5 años del Centro Pediátrico Javier Bonilla Ipiales Nariño

Anemia is a hematological condition characterized by a decrease in hemoglobin or erythrocytes in the blood. Preventing or treating anemia is crucial as it can affect physical and cognitive development, hinder growth, learning ability and resistance to infections. The research project was carried out at the Javier Bonilla Ipiales Nariño Pediatric Center and aimed to identify the prevalence of anemia in children under five years of age. The research used a quantitative paradigm, the technique used was a survey directed to 60 mothers. The results showed that 47% of the mothers were under 20 years of age, 30% had primary education, 30% of the children were premature, 30% had low birth weight, 100% of mothers do not know when the umbilical cord was appropriately clamped, 47% did not receive iron supplements during pregnancy, 25% had anemia during pregnancy, 58% had not received education on how to feed their child from six months, and 50% never consumed iron-rich foods. New educational strategies were developed,such asthe use of film forums, workshops on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, adequate complementary feeding, demonstration practices on how to introduce foodsinto the child's diet progressively, and the recognition of signs and symptoms of anemia. These strategies were aimed at promoting health and preventing diseases, thus protecting the child's integrity.
