Intervenciones de enfermería postoperatoria en amputación de miembro inferior por enfermedad arterial periférica: revisión sistemática

Introduction: Peripheral Arterial Disease significantly affects the adult population with risk factors such as hypertension, smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyle and dyslipidemia, often leading to the advanced stages of a limb amputation; for this reason, the nursing staff is in charge of providing comprehensive and specialized care during the pre-, peri-, and postoperative phases addressing all of the patient’s biopsychosocial aspects which is crucial in the adaptation process to disability. Objective: To describe the interventions of postoperative nursing following lower limb amputation due to Peripheral Arterial Disease through a literature review. Methodology: A qualitative study was carried out through a literature review of documents published since 2021 to 2024 in several databases such as Scielo, Dialnet, PubMed, Elsevier, LILACS, ResearchGate, Science Direct, Medilgraphic, University repositories, and Google Scholar; a total of 80 sources were used applying inclusion and exclusion criteria based on the PRISMA methodology resulting in 23 relevant studies used for this research. Results: The main postoperative care for amputee patients involves stump care, monitoring wound healing, observing whether there is pain in the phantom limb, applying compressive bandages, making postural changes, and providing psychological support to accept their new environment and promote their autonomy as well as preventing possible complications arising from the surgery. Conclusion: All these care measures highlight the diversity in roles and responsibilities of the nursing staff in the surgical field to achieve efficiently patient recovery.
