Resumo: | Introduction: Scaling and root smoothing is a dental treatment to patients who present chronic periodontitis. This non - surgical treatment is less invasive and therefore presents a lower risk of complications, even more so in diabetic patients. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of closed - field scaling and root smoothing in diabetic patients through a review of the literature. Materials and methods: The present article had a qualitative approach, a pure research type, with an explanatory scope. For the search of information, it was taken from digital platforms such as Pubmed, ScienceDirect and Lilacs. The methodology applied for the review of articles was PRISMA, using selection criteria to exclude irrelevant articles. Results: A total of 243 articles were found, from which duplicate articles, those that did not correspond to the selected language, and those that did not meet the inclusion criteria were eliminated, leaving a total of 17 articles. Conclusion: Closed - field scaling and root smoothing treatment has proved to be effective in diabetic patients, since it has improved periodontal clinical parameters such as plaque index, probing depth and clinical insertion level, because it presents a decrease in gingival inflammation and periodontal pockets, contributing to metabolic control in patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. |
