Resumo:This article aims to propose best practices for the protection of personal data that should be implemented by an entity that is not required to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO) in Ecuador. The growing importance of the protection of data in the legal and technological fields promoted by regulations such as the Organic Law of the Protection of Personal Data and its regulations has created the need to adopt effective measures to guarantee security and confidentiality of the personal information. Through a qualitative approach and a nonexperimental design, deficiencies in the implementation of these practices in organizations of the private sector are analyzed. A set of best practices based on document analysis and interviews to experts is proposed; it seeks to strengthen the regulatory compliance and promote an organizational culture focused on data protection. The results of this research highlight the importance of an adequate management of the personal data contributing to greater trust and security in the management of information in Ecuador.
