| Sumario: | Care is the main reason for the nursing profession and a factor that distinguishes it from other health - related professions, since high quality care means the provision of easy and accessible care, so this study aimed to identify the causes of physical and emotional attrition of nurses in ICU and its impact on job performance, so this article was focused on qualitative analysis, based on a bibliographic search of scientific medical articles and publications on the physical and emotional exhaustion of ICU nurses and its impact on job performance, highlighting among the main results that among the main causes of physical and emotional exhaustion in intensive care unit nurses, the excessive workload, long shifts and lack of rest periods, which influence their well - being, stand out. In addition, the sustained emotional stress generated by the constant attention to critical patients as well as the interaction with family members in crisis situations aggravates physical fatigue and has repercussions on the psychological stability of the personnel, concluding that there is a direct relationship between physical and emotional exhaustion and the work performance of the nursing personnel, reflecting a decrease in the precision in assistance tasks such as increased response times and altered teamwork dynamics as accumulated fatigue affects decision making. |
