Crynodeb: | Introduction: Dental fluorosis is an enamel condition caused by excessive fluoride intake during dental development, especially affecting children and adolescents. This condition can manifest itself from white opacities to severe discolorations and pitting of the enamel, affecting both dental aesthetics and the psychosocial well-being of individuals. Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the different treatment alternatives for dental fluorosis in adolescents using the Dean index through a systematic review. Methodology: The literature review was carried out through a documentary analysis that used the PRISMA methodology. Scientific articles published between 2020 and 2023 were searched in Google Scholar, PubMed and ScienceDirect; and predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to select relevant studies. Results: Of 263 initial articles, 14 studies were filtered and selected after a rigorous process of eliminating duplicates, reviewing titles, abstracts and full texts. Conclusions: The recommended treatments depend on the severity of dental fluorosis according to the Dean index, varying from minimally invasive procedures such as microabrasion and whitening for mild cases, to more invasive interventions such as veneers and crowns for severe cases. Therefore, the choice of treatment must be personalized according to the severity of fluorosis and the needs of the patient, always seeking to preserve tooth structure and improve aesthetics. |
