| Summary: | Introduction: Dental trauma represents a significant public health issue, affecting both oral health and quality of life, particularly in children and adolescents. The high incidence of these injuries, often involving dental fractures and injuries to the upper central incisors, highlights the importance of understanding research methods and factors that impact their management. Objective: To present a protocol for addressing dental trauma caused by various factors in the oral cavity, based on international guidelines and available scientific evidence. Method: A qualitative systematic review of studies on dental trauma was conducted using databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar. Selected studies needed to be in English or Spanish and focus on the prevalence, types of injuries, and effectiveness of treatment for dental trauma. Results: The review revealed a variety of methodologies in studies on dental trauma, with a predominance of cross-sectional and longitudinal approaches. Dental fractures and injuries to central incisors were the most common. The speed of intervention and the quality of treatment influenced the outcomes, highlighting the need for standardization of methods and improvement of care protocols. Conclusions: Methodological standardization is crucial for improving the comparability and consistency of studies. The high incidence of dental fractures and injuries to central incisors underscores the need for preventive strategies and effective management. Early intervention and treatment quality are key to improving outcomes, suggesting that enhancing protocols and education can positively impact patient results. |
