Beskrivelse
Summary:During electoral campaigns in Ecuador, social media had a fundamental role in influencing voters' decisions. However, this became problematic as most of the information published on these platforms was false. The lack of regulation of these digital portals affected the electoral processes and the country's democracy, as well as the general public. This article analyzed the lack of regulation surrounding political campaigns on social media in Ecuador and its impact on electoral processes. A qualitative approach was applied to describe the problem of digital electoral campaigns concerning their regulation. The results revealed legal gaps and the necessity for regulations to address the problem. The research concluded that misleading political information lies to voters due to the lack of state regulation, which affected the electoral process and violated citizens' right to receive truthful and verified information.
