סיכום:Biosecurity consists of a series of preventive measures designed to control occupational risks resulting from biological, physical or chemical agents. The objective of this project was to develop a biosecurity protocol for the management of accidents occurring with sharp objects, that allow to improve the educational environment and thus diminish the accidents among nursing students at Uniandes University, Campus Tulcan. The methodology was used with a quantitative approach, transversal type with a nonexperimental design; the analytic-synthetic method was applied for the synthesis of the information to be structured, more detailed and individualized regarding the problem being studied. For data collection, a survey was carried out and the instrument consisted of a questionnaire based on Likert scale questions; the most relevant results showed that 46% of the population was able to identify the first action to take when facing an accident with a sharp object, 84% was aware of whom to inform in case of an accident with these objects in the laboratory practices, and 50% was aware of the correct procedure of disposing a syringe for blood extraction after being in contact with the patient. This data demonstrated that the creation of a Biosecurity protocol in accidents with sharp objects was important for strengthening the level of knowledge. In addition, it is highly relevant not only for its contribution to safety but also for promoting a preventive culture in health institutions and laboratories.
