| Čoahkkáigeassu: | Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that affects a large number of people worldwide, representing a significant public health challenge. Diabetic patients face a number of additional challenges when undergoing surgical procedures, such as third molar extraction Objective: To analyse postoperative complications in type 2 diabetic patients undergoing third molar extraction. Materials and methods: An exhaustive search of academic databases, digital libraries and scientific journals was carried out to locate relevant articles, books and other documents. Results: After a thorough review and evaluation, 65 selected key articles were consulted as openings, after screening 10 articles ensuring that they met the previously established inclusion criteria to conduct a proper literature review. This demonstrates a meticulous approach to conducting the research and ensures the credibility and quality of the information used in the analysis. Conclusions : Infection was the most common complication. Associated risk factors included inadequate glucose control, duration of diabetes and the presence of microvascular complications. These complications can have a significant clinical impact in terms of pain, healing and recovery time; therefore, careful preoperative assessment, maintaining tight glycaemic control and providing more careful postoperative care in this group of patients is essential to minimise the risks of complications and ensure adequate wound healing. |
