Regarding the identification of alarming symptoms, 40% of the surveyed women considered cough as such, disruptive breathing 20%, sore through 17%, 15% intercostal retraction, and 8% difficulty in breathing, in addition, 50% of the mothers associated cyanosis with hypoxia given the obstruction of respiratory airways. Regarding the answers related to symptoms, 33% took their children to the hospital in cases of flu, cough, bronchitis or pneumonia, and 55% attended in cases of dyspnea, seeking adequate medical attention. In addition, 42% attended the pharmacy when facing alarming symptoms, evidencing inadequate access to medicines, finally, 34% highlighted the relevance of attending well-child medical checkups as a preventive measure. The implementation of preventive measures based on scientific data is crucial to diminishing the severity of respiratory diseases in the children’s population.
