| description | This research project was carried out in the “Corazones Emprendedores Child Development Center” in the city of Tulcan, and its objective was to identify preventive measures to avoid respiratory diseases in children under 5 years. The methodology consisted of a quantitative approach, supported by analytic-systemic, transversal, correlational, bibliographic and field methods. Similarly, a survey was carried out among 60 mothers to collect data. Results showed that 50% of mothers were under 20 years old, thus indicating a social vulnerability; 59% of the mothers only had primary education, suggesting limitations in knowledge and application of preventive measures, similarly 83% of the mothers understood the concept of respiratory diseases correctly, reflecting an adequate alphabetization in this health topic. Regarding the identification of alarming symptoms, 40% of the surveyed women considered cough as such, disruptive breathing 20%, sore through 17%, 15% intercostal retraction, and 8% difficulty in breathing, in addition, 50% of the mothers associated cyanosis with hypoxia given the obstruction of respiratory airways. Regarding the answers related to symptoms, 33% took their children to the hospital in cases of flu, cough, bronchitis or pneumonia, and 55% attended in cases of dyspnea, seeking adequate medical attention. In addition, 42% attended the pharmacy when facing alarming symptoms, evidencing inadequate access to medicines, finally, 34% highlighted the relevance of attending well-child medical checkups as a preventive measure. The implementation of preventive measures based on scientific data is crucial to diminishing the severity of respiratory diseases in the children’s population. |

The implementation of preventive measures based on scientific data is crucial to diminishing the severity of respiratory diseases in the children’s population.
