Rol del profesional de enfermería en el manejo del duelo en el área de emergencia

Background: the role of the nursing professional focuses on caring for the human being in health and disease, from conception to death and in the stage of bereavement through various interventions aimed at reducing the pain and suffering caused by the loss of a loved one of the accompanying family member. Objective: to identify the role of the nursing professional in the management of bereavement in the emergency area. Methods: it was elaborated with a qualitative approach, so a bibliographic review of different articles and documents published in the last five years will be carried out, preferably highlighting the research that evidences the role of nursing in the management of bereavement. Results: were clearly identified and discussed in 4 items: Complicated grief and therapeutic accompaniment; Experiences of nursing professionals in the face of death and grief; The role of nursing in postmortem support; and the impact on families of people with cancer and the nursing process. Conclusions: it is concluded that, in critical situations, nurses not only provide immediate care to the patient, but also play a fundamental role in supporting family members facing the loss or imminent loss, providing an environment of respect and dignity during these difficult moments to facilitate a healthier grieving process and reflecting the humanization of care in such sensitive situations.
