| Resumo: | Background: Effective communication between nursing staff and oncology patients is fundamental for improving treatment adherence and the quality of care. Objective: To determine the importance of effective communication between oncology patients and nursing professionals in adherence to healthcare services. Method: A systematic literature review was conducted using a qualitative approach and the PRISMA method. The following databases were consulted: Medline, Redalyc, Scielo, Google Scholar, and a governmental source, the National Cancer Institute. Results: The most relevant findings indicate that patients perceive medical care positively, which influences their adherence to healthcare services when healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, utilize communication techniques and skills that foster interaction and better understanding in a setting of trust and empathy. However, negative circumstances can affect effective communication, stemming from the patient, their family members, or even healthcare professionals themselves, as well as the physical or infrastructural environment of care. Conclusions: Effective communication between oncology patients and nursing professionals is a determining factor in adherence to healthcare services. The implementation of strategies based on empathy, education, and optimized consultation time can significantly improve the therapeutic relationship and clinical outcomes. |
