| Summary: | This study addresses the pressing need for a public policy in Ecuador that ensures the humane and dignified treatment of farm animals, in alignment with the constitutional recognition of the rights of nature and international standards of animal welfare. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining a legal-normative analysis with structured surveys administered to 97 attorneys from the Bar Association of Tungurahua Province. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted with veterinary and environmental law experts, and the research was supported by a comparative review of international legislation and official data from the agricultural sector. The findings show that 74.2% of respondents believe that a comprehensive public policy would help uphold the rights of nature, while 25.8% express concerns about its effective implementation. Based on this evidence, the study concludes that reforms to the Organic Environmental Code are necessary to establish clear animal welfare standards, strengthen monitoring and enforcement mechanisms, and promote economic incentives that encourage sustainable farming practices aligned with international benchmarks. |
