Summary:The model of Nola Pender “Health Promotion” focuses on how people can make decisions to improve their well-being by adopting healthy lifestyles and thus preventing diseases and encouraging people to assume an active role in maintaining good health; that is why the main objective of this research was to implement educational strategies in the nursing students of Universidad Autónoma Regional de los Andes-UNIANDES, in Tulcán campus. The study was based on a qualitative approach, descriptive and transversal, using Pender’s Health Promoting Scale questionnaire which included type Likert questions to assess 139 students. Results showed that 89% of participants are not aware of having adequate nutrition, 90% do not practice any physical activity at least 30 minutes a week, 57% do not sleep nor rest properly, 69% presented obesity and 31% constantly seek to give a profound meaning to their lives. This data reflects that most nursing students do not follow a healthy lifestyle, which poses a significant challenge, given that these future professionals should be promoters of healthy habits. Considering the relevance of reinforcing the development of these lifestyles by implementing educational strategies based on Pender’s Health Promoting model to improve not only their personal but also their professional benefit among this population.
