Resumo:Bichat's pouch, also known as the buccal fat pad, is an anatomical structure located in the cheek below the masticatory muscles and has been the subject of interest in the field of maxillofacial surgery and facial aesthetics. Objective: To analyze the use of Bichat's pouch as a surgical method for the closure of buccosinusal communications based on safety. Materials and method: An exhaustive search was carried out in electronic databases, such as PubMed, BVS, Google Scholar and Scielo, using search terms related to the Bichat pocket and buccosinusal communications. Results: through an exhaustive review and selection of the articles in 87 and after 65 with the inclusion and exclusion aspects, 10 articles were selected for the review of the subject and to establish a discussion among the findings. Conclusion: Bichat's pouch, a specific buccal adipose tissue, has proven to be a versatile and effective tool in various oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures. The studies reviewed have highlighted its usefulness in oroantral corrections, reconstruction of intraoral defects, closure of buccosinusal communications, treatment of gingival recessions and repair of post-surgical defects, among others.
