Izvleček: | The study problem addressed is the effectiveness of myorelaxant splints in the treatment of bruxism, a parafunctional habit that results in increased masticatory muscle tone and can lead to temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD). Objective: The main purpose of this research is to identify the effectiveness of myorelaxant splints in the management of bruxism to help dental health professionals make informed decisions about their use. Materials and methods: The study was conducted through a systematic review of the literature, using the PRISMA approach, analyzing randomized controlled trials and other relevant studies. Results: The research identified 72 articles in the first review, and after analyzing them and through the eligibility criteria, 21 studies were included that evaluated various types of splints in both adults and children over 11 years of age with bruxism. Conclusion: It has been identified that, although myorelaxant splints are effective in reducing the symptoms of bruxism, their long - term effectiveness is comparable to other therapies such as physiotherapy or behavioral therapy. The studies also suggest that, while occlusal splints can improve sleep quality and reduce muscle activity, their effectiveness varies, depending on the type of splint and individual patient characteristics. The outcome of the study highlights the need for further high quality research to determine the true efficacy of myorelaxant splints in the treatment of bruxism and related disorders. |
