La belleza escénica y los servicios ecosistémicos de los árboles urbanos del Parque Lineal la Tebaida de la ciudad de Loja, Ecuador

The scenic beauty provided by urban trees is a paramount ecosystem service for the quality of life of city inhabitants. The presence of green areas with well-maintained trees can improve people's mental and physical health, reduce environmental pollution, and promote urban biodiversity. The research aimed to analyze the phenotypic features that influence the quality of the urban landscape and evaluate the visual impact and scenic beauty of La Tebaida Lineal Park in the city of Loja, Ecuador. Divided the methodology into two phases: the first phase was in the office where planned the drone flight, the images were processed using Pix4D mapper software, designed the surveys, and tabulated the results; and the second phase was in the field, where conducted the drone flights, control points lifted using a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) station, tree inventories carried out, and surveys applied to visitors. The results identified 1316 trees of 26 species and 17 families, with Myrtaceae, Salicaceae, and Fabaceae being the most abundant. The ecosystem services provided by trees are peace, tranquillity, and beautification of the place, with species such as Willow, Eucalyptus, Pine, and Calistemo contributing the most to the scenic beauty. The results also showed that the quantity, variety, phytosanitary status, and phenotypic characteristics of trees influence visual impact and scenic beauty, while buildings and electrical infrastructure have a negative effect. It is concluded that to improve the quality of the urban landscape, it is necessary to incorporate forest species with phenotypic characteristics that contribute to high scenic beauty and carry out activities to care for and conserve urban trees that involve the general public, thus improving the visitor experience.
