This procedure is a usual practice in the hospital environment, and it is estimated that approximately 85 million of transfusions are performed in the worldwide during the year, in which the role of the nurse is fundamental; it is necessary specific knowledge for the administration. In addition with continuous updates to provide the patient the quality and safety that it requires. This research is a cross-sectional descriptive study, the integrants that participated on that were 151 nurse professionals that work in this health house. The information was obtained by two instruments: a quiz, which measures the knowledge of the professional, and an observational instrument to verify the handling of blood transfusion, and its components, demonstrating that, the majority of professionals have a regular level of knowledge, a good level of 27% ,and a poor level of 16%. Inside of the management of transfusion it is demonstrated that there is a significant level of 35%, a partial management of 33%, an excellent management of 13%, insufficient represented by 10% and a minimum of 8%. Key words: components, nursing, professional, blood, transfusionEl presente trabajo de investigación determinó el conocimiento y manejo de transfusión de sangre y sus componentes de los profesionales de enfermería del Hospital Teófilo Dávila periodo 2017- 2018. Este procedimiento es una práctica habitual en el ámbito hospitalario y se estima que aproximadamente se realizan 85 millones de transfusiones en el año a nivel mundial, en la que el papel del enfermero/a es fundamental, siendo necesarios conocimientos específicos para la administración, además de continuas actualizaciones para brindar al paciente la calidad y seguridad que requiere. Esta investigación es un estudio descriptivo transversal, contó con un universo de 151 profesionales de enfermería que laboran en esta casa de salud. La información se obtuvo por medio de dos instrumentos: una encuesta, que mide el conocimiento del profesional y un instrumento observacional para determinar el manejo de transfusión de sangre y sus componentes, demostrando que la mayoría de profesionales tienen un nivel regular de conocimiento, un nivel bueno el 27% y un deficiente nivel el 16%. Dentro del manejo de transfusión queda demostrado que existe un nivel significativo del mismo el 35%, un manejo parcial el 33%, un excelente manejo el 13%, insuficiente representado por el 10% y mínimo el 8%.
