Opis
Izvleček:Anemia is a very common pathology worldwide and in Latin America, which is defined as a decrease in the concentration of hemoglobin in the body according to ranges for sex and age established by WHO and PAHO. At the local level, no research was found in schoolchildren but not in adolescents that seek to relate anemia and academic performance, so it was decided to carry out a study that aimed to identify the relationship between anemia and school performance in students of the national school " November 18 ”, during the period May 2019 - January 2020. The study was descriptive cross-sectional, with a sample of 144 students enrolled in the school between the ages of 11 to 18 years in which the presence of anemia was determined through an examination Laboratory in which hemoglobin and hematocrit values were obtained, and for academic performance the grades corresponding to the first semester were requested, these data were recorded in a file with the personal data of each student. Once the information was collected, the data obtained was entered into the Excel software to be processed. The presence was determined in 4.17% of the sample studied and at the time of relating the variables studied by means of the Odds ratio (OR) it is evidenced that students with anemia have a greater than 8.87 probability of presenting a close academic performance to achieve the required learning, with which it is concluded that there is a relationship between anemia and low academic performance. Key words: Anemia, hemoglobin, hematocrit, academic performance.
