description Fibromyalgia is a disease whose etiology is still under discussion; it is characterized by widespread and chronic skeletal muscle pain and hypersensitivity, recognized by all international medical organizations and OMS since 1992. Several studies indicate that its origin is neurological, and that the pain would result from neurochemical imbalances at the level of the central nervous system. Having several associated risk factors, mainly female sex, and age. In this context, the present research work was carried out whose objective was to determine the risk factors and the prevalence of Fibromyalgia through the application of the questionnaire COPCORD in students and teachers of the Career of Human Medicine of the National University of Loja in the academic period October 2019 - march 2020; for this purpose, a cross-sectional study was carried out, with a previously randomized population sample consisting of 300 people including teachers and students of the Medical Career of the National University of Loja. The following results were obtained: a prevalence of fibromyalgia was found of 1.33% being all cases of the female sex; in addition, most cases belong to the age group 18-29 years (0.667%). Pathologies associated with fibromyalgia were found, such as anxiety, depression, obesity, respiratory infections, varicose veins, among others. It was concluded that there is a considerable prevalence; sex and age are direct risk factors, and the most representative characterization of these patients is that 100% had anxiety and depression. Keywords: etiology, female sex, anxiety, depression
