Etiketa erantsi | Gaia: | The objective of this research is to propose rural tourism as an alternative for sustainable development in the Quilanga canton, Loja province. The lack of knowledge of the population about this activity has generated that tourism is carried out empirically, causing a disorderly growth and the overload of tourists in the natural and cultural attractions of the canton. A descriptive and correlational diagnosis was developed to determine the sustainable development of rural tourism considering the current reality of both, the tourist attractions and their infrastructure. Field research was designed using tools such as surveys directed at the economically active population of Quilanga canton, and interviews with the main tourism service providers and authorities under a mixed approach of qualitative and quantitative information that helped to visualize the strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats for the tourism activity. Then, each one of the objectives were developed. In the first objective a diagnosis was made of the current tourism situation in the Quilanga canton based on the surveys and interviews. The second objective was developed to measure the degree of correlation between the dependent and independent variables. Finally, a SWOT analysis was conducted and development strategies were proposed to improve rural tourism in a sustainable manner. Thus, to contribute to the local economy as an additional activity to the productive ones such as agriculture that is developed by the inhabitants of the canton. According to the results obtained, several strategies were developed to promote tourism with various activities to be carried out, which allow a starting point for tourism development. |
